Our Story
Swiss Roots was established in January 2021 when some 5th and 6th generation descendants of Gottlieb Betler, an original settler of Helvetia, purchased the former Kulture Haus, a community owned establishment that served the area. Driven by our mission, being deeply rooted in history and traditions, and wanting to continue serving the community, the owners took the opportunity to revitalize an integral business in town. Swiss Roots is located directly across the street from the Historic Square where Gottlieb’s original cottage now houses the village museum.
Our Mission
At Swiss Roots, it is our mission to carry on with traditions that began when the original settlers from Switzerland founded the village in 1869. By continuing to convey our Swiss German history and heritage, serving our local communities, and welcoming travelers from afar, we hope to revitalize our community and ensure its longevity.
